Implantation typically occurs between 6 to 12 days after ovulation (DPO), most commonly around 8 to 10 days after ovulation. Since ovulation may not coincide exactly with the day of sex, implantation can happen roughly 6 to 17 days after intercourse depending on when ovulation and fertilization occur. Sperm can survive inside the female reproductive tract for up to five days, which means fertilization might happen immediately or days after sex if ovulation occurs later. Following fertilization, the fertilized egg travels to the uterus and implants in the uterine lining during this timeframe.
