Cats can get pregnant as early as 4 months old.
Age of First Pregnancy
Female cats typically reach sexual maturity and experience their first heat cycle between 4 and 7 months, making pregnancy possible during this period. Unspayed females in heat can conceive quickly upon mating with an intact male, often as young as 4 months though 5-6 months is more common.
Heat Cycle Frequency
Cats go into heat every 2-3 weeks during breeding season (spring through fall) if not pregnant, increasing chances of rapid conception. Nursing does not prevent a new pregnancy, which can occur just weeks after giving birth.
Gestation Timeline
Once pregnant, gestation lasts about 63-65 days (roughly 9 weeks), with signs visible from around 3 weeks in. To prevent unwanted litters, spay kittens before 4-6 months or separate from males.
