To add someone to a group text, the method depends on the device and messaging platform you are using:
On iPhone (iMessage)
- You can only add someone if the group has at least three people and everyone uses Apple devices (iPhones, iPads).
- Open the group message.
- Tap the group icons or group name at the top of the conversation.
- Tap the gray arrow next to the contacts list.
- Tap "Add Contact," then type or select the contact you want to add.
- Tap "Done" to confirm
Note: You cannot add someone if the group includes non-Apple devices or if the group has fewer than three people. If you want to add a non-Apple user, you must create a new group message
On Android (Google Messages or Samsung Messages)
- Open the group conversation.
- Tap the group name or the three-dot menu.
- Select "Add people" or "Manage members."
- Tap the "+" icon and select or type the contact to add.
- Confirm by tapping "Done" or "Next"
On WhatsApp
- Open the WhatsApp group chat.
- Tap the group subject/name at the top.
- Tap "Add Participants."
- Select contacts to add and confirm with the check mark
Important Notes
- Adding or removing participants is only possible in group chats with multiple people.
- On iPhone, removing someone requires at least four people in the group.
- Group SMS/MMS messages (non-iMessage) do not support adding or removing participants after creation.
- If adding someone is not possible in an existing group, you may need to start a new group message including the new participant(s)
