Basic Requirements
- Be at least 18 years old (21+ in some states to deliver alcohol).
- Be eligible to work in the U.S.
- Have a valid Social Security number.
- Have a bank account for direct deposit payments.
- Have a smartphone (iPhone with iOS 16+ or Android 6.0+).
- Be able to lift up to 40-50 pounds.
- Pass a background check
Additional Requirements for Full-Service Shoppers (Shop & Drive)
- Have consistent access to a reliable, insured vehicle.
- Have a valid driver's license.
- Have insulated bags or coolers to keep groceries fresh during delivery
Application Process
- Sign up online at shoppers.instacart.com or via the Instacart Shopper app (iOS or Android).
- Create an account and submit required documents including driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance (for full-service shoppers).
- Pass a background check , which typically takes 1 to 4 days but can take up to 10 days.
- Get approved and start accepting orders through the app.
- For in-store shoppers, you may need to attend an in-person or virtual orientation session
Working as an Instacart Shopper
- Full-service shoppers shop for and deliver groceries, setting their own schedules.
- In-store shoppers pick orders inside the store and are usually W-2 employees with scheduled shifts.
