To change or update your email password on an iPhone, follow these steps depending on your email type:
For Most Email Accounts (e.g., Custom Domain Email)
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and tap Mail (or Passwords & Accounts on some iOS versions).
- Tap Accounts to see your email accounts.
- Select the email account you want to update.
- Tap on the account again to open account settings.
- Find the Password field (usually under Incoming Mail Server settings).
- Delete the old password and enter your new email password.
- Also update the password for the Outgoing Mail Server by tapping SMTP , then the primary server, and entering the new password there.
- Tap Done to save changes.
- Open the Mail app and send a test email to confirm the update works
For Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, AOL, and Similar Accounts
- You cannot change the password directly in the Mail app.
- First, change your password on the email provider’s official website.
- Then, on your iPhone, you must delete the email account from Settings > Mail > Accounts.
- After deleting, go back to Accounts and tap Add Account.
- Select your email provider and sign in with the new password.
- This will update your password on the iPhone
For iCloud Email (Apple ID Email)
- The email password is the same as your Apple ID password.
- To change it, go to Settings > [your name] > Sign-In & Security > Change Password.
- Enter your current password or device passcode, then set a new password.
- This change updates your iCloud email password across all Apple devices automatically
If after updating the password you have issues sending or receiving mail, try restarting your iPhone or removing and re-adding the account. Always ensure your new password works by logging into the email provider’s webmail first
. This process ensures your iPhone uses the correct password to access your email account.
