To change your address with the U.S. Postal Service (USPS), you have two main options:
- Change your address online:
- Go to the official USPS Change of Address website (USPS.com/move).
- Select whether the move is for an individual, family, or business.
- Fill out the change of address form with your old and new addresses.
- Verify your identity by opting to receive a verification code on your mobile phone.
- Pay a $1.25 identity verification fee using a credit card with a billing address matching your old or new address.
- Upon successful verification, USPS will send confirmation letters to your old and new addresses, and your mail will be forwarded.
- Change your address in person at a Post Office:
- Visit your local Post Office with acceptable photo ID.
- Request a free Mover's Guide packet.
- Fill out the PS Form 3575 from the packet and give it to the retail associate.
- The associate will verify your identity with your photo ID and process your change of address request.
Additional notes:
- If you cannot verify your identity online, you must do so in person at a Post Office.
- For special situations such as changes for someone else, deceased persons, international moves, or businesses, specific documentation and in-person visits may be required.
- Mail forwarding starts and lasts from the start date you specify.
This procedure ensures USPS will properly reroute your mail to your new address.
