To clean a hairbrush, follow these steps:
- Remove Hair: Use your fingers, a comb, or scissors to remove all hair tangled in the brush.
- Prepare Cleaning Solution: Fill a bowl or sink with warm water and add a few drops of gentle shampoo. Optionally, add baking soda for extra cleaning power.
- Soak the Brush: For plastic brushes, submerge the entire brush in the soapy water for 3 to 5 minutes. For brushes with padded bases or wooden brushes, soak only the bristles to avoid damage.
- Scrub the Bristles: Use an old toothbrush to scrub the base and the bristles, cleaning off oil, dead skin, and product buildup.
- Rinse: Rinse the brush thoroughly with cool or warm water, making sure to remove all soap residue.
- Dry: Shake off excess water, then place the brush bristles facing down on a clean towel to air dry completely.
Avoid soaking wooden brushes fully to prevent damage, and clean your hairbrush roughly every two to four weeks, or more often if needed.
