To clean rangehood filters effectively, follow these steps:
- Remove the filters from the rangehood.
- Fill a sink, large container, or bathtub with very hot water.
- Add dishwashing detergent (degreasing soap) and about 1/4 cup of baking soda to the water.
- Submerge the filters and let them soak for 15 to 30 minutes to loosen grease and grime.
- After soaking, use a sponge or a non-abrasive brush to scrub away remaining dirt.
- Rinse the filters thoroughly with warm water.
- Allow the filters to air dry or dry them with a microfiber cloth before reinstalling.
For regular maintenance, if the filters are metal, they can also be placed on the bottom rack of a dishwasher for a simple wash cycle. Charcoal filters should not be cleaned but replaced every 3-6 months depending on usage. Avoid using harsh chemicals or scrubbing methods that could damage the filter mesh, especially if it is aluminum. This process helps keep the rangehood filters clean and grease-free for better kitchen air quality and performance.
