To clean a Vornado fan (air circulator), follow these expert steps:
What You Need
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Soft cloth (dry or slightly damp)
- Optional: Vacuum cleaner with small attachment or compressed air
Step-by-Step Cleaning Process
Step 1: Remove the Front Grill
- Unplug the fan first for safety.
- Locate two screws at the top rear of the unit and remove them with the Phillips screwdriver.
- Tilt the fan back to find a third screw near the base, remove it as well. (Some models made after 2022 may have four screws.)
- Release any clips next to the screws and carefully lift off the front grill
Step 2: Clean the Blades and Grill
- Use the soft cloth to wipe dust off the blades inside the fan. A dry cloth is usually sufficient, but you can slightly dampen it for stubborn dirt-just avoid getting water into the motor or electrical parts
- Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment or compressed air to remove dust from hard-to-reach areas inside the fan and on the grill
- Wipe the front grill inside and out with the cloth to remove dust and fingerprints.
Step 3: Reassemble the Fan
- Align the front grill with the brackets and clips, then snap it back into place.
- Replace the screws in the reverse order of removal, making sure the Vornado logo is straight when upright
Additional Tips
- For deep cleaning, some models allow you to remove the fan blade by loosening a reverse-threaded nut (turn clockwise to loosen)
. This gives access to clean both sides of the blade and the motor area.
- Avoid using excessive water or soaking the unit since it is an electrical appliance
- If you don’t see screws, the grill may be held by clips-consult your model’s manual or look for a disassembly tutorial online
Following these steps will keep your Vornado fan clean and running efficiently.
