To clean a Waterpik water flosser effectively, follow these key steps:
- Clean the outside of the device with a soft cloth and mild, non-abrasive cleaner.
- Remove the water reservoir and clean it either in the dishwasher (top rack) or hand wash it with warm, soapy water. Dry it thoroughly.
- To clean internal parts, fill the reservoir with a mixture of one part white vinegar to two parts warm water, and run the flosser until empty. Then run a reservoir full of clean warm water through the device to rinse.
- For countertop models, soak the handle (after removing the tip) in two parts water to one part vinegar for 5-7 minutes, then rinse.
- Soak the flosser tip in two parts water to one part white vinegar or hydrogen peroxide for 5 minutes, then rinse it well.
- Replace the flosser tips every 3 to 6 months for optimal performance.
- Avoid abrasive cleaners, boiling water, and be sure to rinse thoroughly after each cleaning.
This routine should be done about once a month to keep the Waterpik working well and free of mineral deposits, mold, and bacteria buildup.
