To come off Facebook, there are two main options: deactivating your account temporarily or deleting it permanently.
- To deactivate your Facebook account (temporary):
- You go to Settings & Privacy > Settings > Meta Accounts Centre > Personal details > Account ownership and control > Deactivation or deletion.
- Select Deactivate Account and follow the prompts.
- This hides your profile and content but you can reactivate by logging back in anytime.
- To delete your Facebook account permanently:
- Follow the same path but select Delete Account.
- You will be asked to confirm with your password.
- Facebook offers a 30-day grace period during which you can change your mind.
- After deletion, your profile, posts, and pages you manage will be removed permanently.
You can do this through either the Facebook app on mobile (iOS or Android) or on the Facebook website from a computer. If you want to keep your data before deleting, you can download your Facebook data via Settings before proceeding. For convenience, many people just uninstall the Facebook app and stop signing in to take a break without deleting the account permanently. These steps help control your presence on Facebook safely and according to your preference either for a break or goodbye.
