To delete a Gmail account permanently, follow these steps:
Steps to Delete Gmail Account
- Go to your Google Account settings by visiting https://myaccount.google.com/ and sign in.
- Click on the Data & privacy tab.
- Scroll down to the section labeled Data from apps and services that you use.
- Find and select Delete a Google service.
- Enter your Google account password to verify your identity.
- Locate Gmail in the list of services and click the trash can icon next to it.
- Enter an alternate email address (cannot be a Gmail address) to continue using other Google services.
- Click Send verification email.
- Go to the alternate email inbox, open the verification email from Google, and click the link to confirm deletion.
- After confirmation, your Gmail account will be permanently deleted. You will no longer be able to send or receive emails with that address.
Important Notes
- Download or back up your data before deleting, as all emails and settings will be lost.
- Deleting Gmail will not delete your entire Google Account, but only the Gmail service.
- You can still use other Google services after deletion with your alternate email.
- You might have a short period to recover your Gmail address if you change your mind.
- The deletion process can be done on a computer, through the Gmail app on iPhone, or from Android device settings with a similar workflow.
This process removes your Gmail data and disables the email address permanently, but your Google Account remains active for other services if you provide an alternate email.
