To take a screenshot on a Mac, there are several keyboard shortcuts:
- To capture the entire screen, press and release Shift + Command + 3. The screenshot is saved to your desktop.
- To capture a portion of the screen, press and release Shift + Command + 4. The cursor changes to a crosshair that you can drag to select the desired area. Release the mouse or trackpad button to take the screenshot.
- To capture a specific window or menu, press Shift + Command + 4, then press the Spacebar. The cursor changes to a camera icon, which you click on the window or menu to capture it.
- MacOS Mojave and later also offer Shift + Command + 5, which brings up a screen capture panel with options to capture the entire screen, a window, or a portion, as well as screen recording features.
If a thumbnail appears in the corner of the screen after taking a screenshot, you can click it to edit the screenshot or wait for it to save automatically to the desktop.
