There are several ways to take a screenshot on Windows:
- Press the Windows key + PrtScn (Print Screen) key together. This captures the entire screen and automatically saves the screenshot to the "Screenshots" folder inside your "Pictures" folder. Your screen will briefly dim to indicate the screenshot was taken.
- Press the PrtScn key alone to capture the entire screen to the clipboard. Then open an image editor like Paint and press Ctrl + V to paste the screenshot. You can save it from there.
- Press Alt + PrtScn to capture only the active window to the clipboard, then paste and save it in an image editor.
- Use the Snipping Tool or Snip & Sketch by pressing Windows key + Shift + S. This lets you select an area, a window, or the whole screen to capture. The screenshot is copied to the clipboard and shows as a notification for saving or editing.
- You can also use Windows Game Bar with Windows key + G and take screenshots during gaming.
If your keyboard does not have a PrtScn key, you can use Fn + Windows key + Space Bar to take a screenshot. The most straightforward method for a quick full-screen capture and auto-save is Windows key + PrtScn. These methods apply to Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems.
