To file for unemployment in Michigan in 2025, follow these steps:
- Prepare the necessary information: social security number, mailing address, driver’s license or state ID number, names and addresses of all employers from the past 18 months, dates of employment and wages for each quarter during the past 18 months, and if applicable, your alien registration number and work authorization expiration date.
- File your claim:
- Preferred and fastest method: File online through the Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM) by signing into MILogin at michigan.gov/uia.
- Alternatively, file by phone by calling 1-866-500-0017 (TTY 1-866-366-0004 for hearing impaired).
- In-person filing is possible by appointment only.
- After filing your claim, register for work with Pure Michigan Talent Connect either online or at a Michigan Works! location. Your profile must be verified by a Michigan Works! Service Center, which can be done virtually or in person.
- Follow Michigan's filing schedule based on your last name for when to file online or by phone.
Filing as soon as possible, ideally during your first week of unemployment, is important for timely processing of benefits.
