To stop AirPods from reading notifications aloud, go to your iPhone's Settings app, then to Notifications > Announce Notifications, and toggle off "Announce Notifications" at the top. This disables Siri from reading any notifications through AirPods. Alternatively, you can selectively disable announcements for specific apps in the list below the main toggle. You can also disable this feature temporarily or from the Control Center by toggling the bell icon for Announce Notifications when your AirPods are connected. Key steps include:
- Open Settings > Notifications > Announce Notifications
- Disable the main toggle to stop all notifications from being read
- Or disable per app if you want some notifications still announced
- Use the Control Center bell icon to pause announcement temporarily
This works on AirPods 2nd generation or later and requires iOS 15 or later.
