To kill earwigs, several effective methods can be used:
- Spray a solution of dish soap and water or a 1:1 mixture of rubbing alcohol and water directly on earwigs to kill them on contact.
- Apply boric acid powder or food-grade diatomaceous earth around areas where earwigs are seen. These powders damage their exoskeleton and cause dehydration, leading to death.
- Use light traps by placing a light source over soapy water; earwigs attracted to the light fall into the water and drown.
- Vacuuming earwigs is also effective to physically remove and dispose of them.
- Chemical insecticides can be used indoors and outdoors for fast results, but care must be taken to follow label directions and safety precautions.
Additionally, reducing moisture around the home and removing hiding spots will deter earwigs from returning.
