To leave a group text message on an iPhone, follow these steps:
- Open the Messages app and select the group text you want to leave.
- Tap the group icons or the group name at the top of the conversation.
- Scroll down and tap Leave this Conversation.
- Confirm by tapping Leave this Conversation again.
Important conditions for leaving a group text on iPhone:
- The group must have at least four participants (including you).
- All participants must be using Apple devices with iMessage enabled.
- If these conditions are not met, the Leave this Conversation option will not appear or will be grayed out.
If you cannot leave the group because someone is not using an Apple device or iMessage, you can mute the conversation by enabling Hide Alerts to stop notifications without leaving the chat. If you want to completely stop receiving messages and cannot leave, you may delete and block the conversation as an alternative. These instructions apply to iOS 14 and later, including iOS 17
