To make a sticker on Snapchat, take or upload a photo, tap the scissors icon, and trace around the object you want to cut out. Snapchat turns the selected area into a custom sticker that you can place on your Snap or use in Chat.

Make a sticker from a Snap

  1. Open Snapchat and take a photo or video.
  2. On the preview screen, tap the scissors icon.
  3. Use your finger to outline the person, object or detail you want to copy.
  4. Lift your finger when you’ve completed the outline.
  5. Snapchat will add the cutout as a sticker on your Snap.
  6. Drag it to reposition it, pinch with two fingers to resize it, or twist it to rotate it.

The cleaner your outline, the better the sticker will look. For small or detailed objects, trace slowly and keep as close to the edges as possible.

You can also create a sticker from an image saved on your phone:

  1. Open a Chat conversation.
  2. Tap the sticker icon.
  3. Select New Sticker.
  4. Choose a photo from your device.
  5. Select the part of the image you want to use.
  6. Tap Save Sticker.

Your saved custom stickers can then be added to Snaps and sent in Chat.

Use a saved sticker

When editing a Snap, tap the sticker icon and look for the section containing your custom stickers. Tap one to add it, then move, resize or rotate it as needed. If the scissors tool isn’t visible, update Snapchat and check the preview screen after taking a Snap. The exact button placement can vary slightly between app versions, but the scissors icon is the tool used to create custom cutouts.
