To make an espresso martini, follow these steps: Ingredients:
- 50 ml vodka
- 30-35 ml coffee liqueur (such as Kahlúa)
- 1 shot (about 25-30 ml) freshly brewed espresso, cooled
- 10-15 ml simple syrup (sugar syrup)
- Ice cubes
- Garnish: 3 coffee beans
Instructions:
- Brew the espresso and let it cool completely. To cool it faster, you can place it in the freezer for a few minutes.
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes.
- Add the cooled espresso, vodka, coffee liqueur, and simple syrup to the shaker.
- Shake very hard and vigorously for about 15-20 seconds to chill the drink and create froth on top.
- Strain the mixture into a chilled martini or cocktail glass.
- Garnish with 3 coffee beans on top.
Tips:
- Chilling the espresso before mixing prevents the ice from melting too fast and diluting the drink.
- Shaking hard creates a lovely foam (crema) on top, which is characteristic of a good espresso martini.
- If you don’t have an espresso machine and want the foam, you can add half an egg white before shaking, or use cocktail foam drops available online.
- Use fresh ice for better flavour and less dilution.
This combination creates a smooth, rich, and sweet cocktail with a caffeine kick, perfect for after dinner or parties.
