To make gummies, you can combine fruit juice, gelatin, and honey, then chill the mixture until it solidifies
. Here's a basic recipe for healthy homemade gummy bears:
- In a saucepan, mix fruit juice and honey
. Use 1 cup of your choice of fruit juice, or combine 2/3 cup of fruit puree and 1/3 cup of fruit juice, with 2 tablespoons of honey
- Simmer the juice and honey
. Whisk to combine and bring to a light simmer over medium heat
- After it begins to simmer, remove the saucepan from the heat and slowly sprinkle in gelatin while whisking thoroughly
. For every cup of juice, use ΒΌ cup of gelatin
. Alternatively, you can dissolve 2 1/2 tsp of gelatin with 1 Tbsp of water in a separate container and then add it to the juice mixture
- At this stage, additional ingredients, such as a squeeze of lemon juice for tartness, can be added
- Use a dropper to fill the gummy bear molds with the liquid mixture once fully blended
- Carefully place the molds in the refrigerator or freezer for about 30 minutes, or until firm
. To speed up the process, you can put them in the freezer for 15 minutes
- Pop the gummies out of the molds and store them in the refrigerator for up to a week
Some important notes to keep in mind:
- Sprinkle the gelatin slowly rather than dumping it all at once
- Avoid using juices like papaya, pineapple, kiwi, or mango, as they contain an enzyme that can prevent the gelatin from setting up properly
- Make sure the gelatin is fully dissolved before filling the molds to prevent the molds from clogging
