To make paper at home, follow these basic steps:
- Cut or rip scrap paper into small pieces (under 2 inches).
- Soak the paper in water until it softens (a few hours to overnight).
- Blend the soaked paper and water until it becomes a pulp.
- Fill a tub with water and pour the pulp mixture into it.
- Dip a papermaking mould (a frame with a screen) into the tub, lift it evenly to form a sheet of paper pulp on the screen.
- Let excess water drip off, then place the mould screen-side down on a towel or cloth.
- Press with a sponge or cloth to remove more water.
- Remove the mould and let the paper dry flat overnight.
- Once dry, remove the paper and flatten it under a heavy book if needed.
Materials needed include scrap paper (like junk mail or old receipts), water, a blender or immersion blender, a papermaking mould, a tub or container for water, towels or cloths, and a sponge.
This method is a simple and accessible way for making handmade paper using recycled materials.
