To mark an email as important in Outlook, start composing a new email, then go to the "Options" or "Message" tab on the ribbon. In the "Tags" group, select the "High Importance" button, which is usually represented by a red exclamation mark icon. This marks the email as urgent or important. When the recipient receives it, the email will be marked with the exclamation point, making it stand out as important. If using Outlook desktop:

  • Click "New Email."
  • Enter the recipient and subject.
  • Go to the "Message" tab.
  • In the "Tags" group, click "High Importance" (red exclamation mark).
  • Compose the email body and send.

There is also a "Low Importance" option represented by a blue downward arrow if you want to mark an email as less urgent. If you do not select either, the email is sent with normal importance by default.

Additionally, Outlook allows setting rules to automatically mark incoming emails from certain senders as important if desired.

This method works similarly in both the desktop and new Outlook versions.
