To move Steam games to another drive, follow these steps:
1. Add a New Steam Library Folder on the Target Drive
- Open Steam and go to Settings.
- Navigate to the Storage tab.
- Click Add Drive or the plus (+) button to add the new drive where you want to move your games.
- Choose or create a folder on that drive to serve as the new Steam library location
2. Move Individual Games to the New Drive
There are two main ways to move games:
Using Storage Manager
- In the Storage tab, select the current drive where your games are installed.
- Check the box next to the game(s) you want to move.
- Click the Move button.
- Select the new drive/library folder you just added.
- Confirm and wait for the process to complete
Using Game Properties
- Go to your Steam Library.
- Right-click the game you want to move and select Properties.
- Go to the Local Files tab.
- Click Move Install Folder.
- Choose the new library folder on the other drive.
- Click Move Folder and wait for the transfer to finish
3. Moving the Entire Steam Installation (Optional)
If you want to move the entire Steam client and all games:
- Exit Steam completely.
- Go to your Steam installation folder (usually C:\Program Files\Steam).
- Delete all files except SteamApps , Userdata folders, and Steam.exe.
- Cut and paste the entire Steam folder to the new location.
- Launch Steam from the new location; it will update and recognize your games without redownloading
Notes
- Moving games this way avoids re-downloading large files.
- The move duration depends on game size and drive speed.
- After moving, Steam will keep track of the new locations automatically.
This method is straightforward and supported by Steam's built-in tools, making it easy to free up space on your original drive
