To open a Sentry Safe with a key, here are the general steps:
- Make sure the safe handle is in the horizontal (upward) position.
- Insert the key into the key lock.
- Rotate the key clockwise to the unlock position.
- Remove the key after rotating it to unlock.
- Then, if your Sentry Safe also has an electronic keypad or combination, enter the code on the keypad or dial.
- After entering the correct code or if it’s a key-only model, rotate the handle downward (usually to the 7 o'clock position) to open the safe door.
Note that the key works as a secondary lock override, so it will unlock the safe independently from the combination or electronic lock. If the key is left in the unlock position, you can then enter the combination code at any time to open it as well. Some models require removing a shipping screw inside the door before first use. If it is a dual key and electronic lock safe:
- Insert key and turn to unlock.
- Enter factory or personal code on keypad.
- Rotate handle downward to open.
