To put in a tampon, follow these steps for a safe and comfortable process:
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
- Get your tampon out of its wrapper and familiarize yourself with its applicator. The tampon is inside the applicator, which has a larger outer tube holding the tampon, a grip area, and a smaller tube (plunger) at the end with the string attached.
- Find a comfortable position, such as sitting on the toilet or standing with one foot raised, and relax your muscles.
- Hold the tampon applicator at the grip, place the tip of the tampon at the vaginal opening, and angle it toward your lower back (not straight up).
- Gently insert the applicator all the way in until your fingers touch your body.
- Use your index finger to push the plunger all the way to release the tampon inside.
- Remove the applicator, leaving the tampon string outside for easy removal.
- You should not feel the tampon if it's inserted correctly. If you do, it may be too low or not inserted properly, so try pushing it in further or try again with a new tampon if necessary.
Remember to wash your hands before and after inserting the tampon to maintain hygiene. Change your tampon every 4 to 8 hours to avoid risk of infection or Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS).
