The method to put a device in safe mode depends on the device type. Here are common methods for Android phones and Windows PCs:
Android Phones
- Press and hold the Power button until the power options appear.
- Tap and hold the "Power off" option until the "Safe mode" option appears.
- Tap "Safe mode" to reboot the device into safe mode.
- Alternatively, power off the device, then power it on and immediately press and hold the Volume Down button until the device starts in safe mode. "Safe mode" will be displayed on the screen.
- Safe mode disables third-party apps for troubleshooting purposes.
Windows PCs (Windows 10/11)
- From Windows, hold down the Shift key and click Restart.
- After restart, go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- On the Startup Settings screen, choose Safe Mode by pressing the number key 4 (Safe mode), 5 (Safe mode with networking), or 6 (Safe mode with command prompt).
- The PC will restart into Safe Mode, indicated by the words "Safe Mode" on the screen.
These methods let you diagnose and troubleshoot issues by disabling non- essential software and drivers temporarily.
