To remove section breaks in Microsoft Word, follow these steps:
Removing a Single Section Break
- Show Section Breaks
Go to the Home tab and click the Show/Hide ΒΆ button to display formatting marks, including section breaks. This makes section breaks visible as double lines labeled "Section Break"
- Select and Delete
Place your cursor just before the section break (to the left of it) and press the Delete key on your keyboard (not Backspace). The text before and after the break will merge into one section, adopting the formatting of the following section
- Alternative View
If you have trouble deleting the break, switch to Draft view (under the View tab) where section breaks are easier to select and delete
Removing All Section Breaks at Once
- Press Ctrl + H to open the Find and Replace dialog.
- Click More >> to expand options.
- Click Special and select Section Break. This inserts

into the "Find what" box. - Leave the "Replace with" box empty.
- Click Replace All to remove all section breaks in the document at once
Notes
- Make sure Track Changes is turned off, or you might not be able to delete section breaks
- Deleting a section break merges the sections, so formatting from the following section will apply to the merged content
