To remove someone from a group text, the method depends on your device and the type of messaging service used:
On iPhone (iMessage group chat)
- The group must have four or more people , and all participants must be using Apple devices (iPhone, iPad) with iMessage enabled.
- Open the group message, tap the group name or icons at the top.
- Scroll to the list of participants, then swipe left on the name of the person you want to remove.
- Tap the red Remove button and confirm.
- The person will be removed from the group chat, and remaining members will be notified
- If the group has fewer than four people or includes non-Apple devices (which switches the chat to SMS/MMS), you cannot remove someone; the only option is to start a new group chat excluding that person
On Android (RCS group chat)
- If your group chat uses RCS (Rich Communication Services), you can remove someone.
- Open the group chat, tap the menu (three dots), find the person, tap the menu next to their name, and select Remove from group.
- The person will be removed without affecting the chat history for others
- If using SMS/MMS group messaging, removing someone is generally not possible; you would need to create a new group excluding that person
