To take a screenshot on Windows, you have several easy methods:
- Windows + Shift + S : Opens the Snipping Tool overlay where you can select a rectangular area, freeform shape, window, or full screen to capture. The screenshot is copied to the clipboard and can be edited, saved, or shared in the Snipping Tool
- Print Screen (PrtSc) : Captures the entire screen and copies it to the clipboard. You can then paste it into an image editor or document using Ctrl + V. In Windows 11 with recent updates, pressing PrtSc opens the Snipping Tool for area selection
- Windows + Print Screen : Captures the entire screen and automatically saves the screenshot as a file in the "Screenshots" folder inside your Pictures library, as well as copying it to the clipboard
- Alt + Print Screen : Captures only the active window and copies it to the clipboard for pasting elsewhere
- Using the Snipping Tool app : Open the Start menu, type "Snipping Tool," and launch it. Click "New" to start a capture, then select the area or window you want. You can annotate and save the screenshot from there
These methods cover quick full-screen captures, selective area captures, and window-specific screenshots, with options to edit or save your images easily.
