To see the Instagram Map and use its features, follow these steps:
- Update Instagram : Make sure your Instagram app is updated to the latest version.
- Access the Map :
- Open Instagram and go to your Direct Messages (DM) inbox.
- At the top of your DM inbox, you will see a Map icon next to Notes or short posts.
- Tap on this Map icon to open the Instagram Map.
- Explore the Map :
- You can scroll around the world map, zoom in or out.
- Tap on location tags in posts or stories to open that specific location on the map.
- You can search for locations by typing a city name or place in the search bar.
- The map shows where your friends are or have recently been (if they opt to share) and posts tagged with specific locations.
- Using Instagram Map Features :
- See posts and Stories tagged at locations.
- Save locations by tapping the bookmark icon.
- Share locations with friends using the paper airplane icon.
- Choose who can see your location: friends (followers you follow back), close friends, specific people, or no one.
- Your location updates when you open or return to the Instagram app.
- The location sharing feature is opt-in and off by default.
- Privacy Controls :
- You control who can see your real-time location through privacy settings in the map.
- You can turn off location sharing anytime.
- Location on the map is updated close to real-time but only when the Instagram app is opened or active.
This new Instagram Map is similar to Snapchat's Snap Map, enabling users to discover places and see friends' locations and posts visually on a map.
