To see the Instagram map in 2025, follow these steps:
- Update the Instagram app to the latest version.
- Open the Instagram app and go to your Direct Messages (DM) inbox.
- At the top of your DM inbox, you will see a new "Map" feature icon next to the Notes section.
- Tap the Map icon to open the Instagram map.
- If it's your first time, you will get a prompt to join your friends on the map.
- You can choose who can see your location—friends (followers you follow back), close friends, certain people, or just yourself.
- Share your location if you want by enabling the location services on your device for Instagram.
- On this map, you can see friends who have shared their locations as well as stories and reels tagged with locations by people you follow for the past 24 hours.
The map feature is opt-in, so your location will not be shared unless you choose to share it. Additionally, the location only updates when you open the app or have it running in the background, not continuously.
