To take a screenshot (ss) on a Mac, you have several built-in keyboard shortcuts:
- Capture the entire screen: Press Shift + Command + 3 simultaneously. The screenshot will be saved to your desktop
- Capture a selected portion: Press Shift + Command + 4 , then drag the crosshair pointer to select the area you want to capture, and release the mouse or trackpad button
- Capture a specific window: Press Shift + Command + 4 , then press the Space bar. The pointer changes to a camera icon. Click the window you want to capture
These screenshots are saved as image files on your desktop by default, and a thumbnail may appear briefly in the corner of your screen for quick access or editing
. This method does not require any additional software and works on all modern Mac systems.
