"How to Train Your Dragon: Homecoming" is a 2019 animated short film set in the world of the How to Train Your Dragon franchise. The story takes place during the festival of Snoggletog on the Isle of New Berk. Hiccup and Astrid discover that their children, Zephyr and Nuffink, have developed a fear of dragons due to reading Stoick the Vast's old journals, which depict dragons as dangerous. To help change their children's minds and remind the new generation of the bond between Vikings and dragons, Astrid suggests reviving the Snoggletog Pageant to honor Stoick and tell the story of how dragons and humans became friends. Meanwhile, Toothless is in the Hidden World with his family. He shows his children, the Night Lights, sand drawings about Hiccup and New Berk, inspiring them to secretly fly to New Berk to see it for themselves. Toothless and his mate eventually follow to retrieve their kids. During the preparation and performance of the pageant, which includes a mechanical costume of Toothless worn by Hiccup, mishaps occur including a fire on stage. Toothless arrives just in time to rescue Hiccup and joins the show, helping to remind the people—and his own family—of the deep bond between Vikings and dragons. By the end of the pageant, the children of New Berk gain a newfound respect and appreciation for dragons. Toothless and his family leave New Berk, reminding Hiccup that loved ones are always near in spirit. The story emphasizes the enduring friendship between humans and dragons, bridging generations through celebration and storytelling.
