There are two main ways to turn off an iPad:
- Using the Hardware Buttons:
- For newer iPads (without a Home button, with Face ID or Touch ID in the top button), simultaneously press and hold the top button and either volume button until the power off slider appears. Then slide to power off.
- For older iPads (with a Home button), press and hold the top (power) button until the power off slider appears, then slide to power off.
- Using Settings:
- Open the Settings app.
- Go to General.
- Scroll down and tap Shut Down.
- Slide to power off when the slider appears.
Also, if Siri is enabled on latest iOS versions, you can say "Hey Siri, power off" to turn off the iPad. After turning off, to turn it back on press and hold the top button until the Apple logo appears. These methods fully power off the iPad without deleting any data.
