To turn off Silent mode on an iPhone, the method depends on your iPhone model:
- iPhones with an Action Button (iPhone 15 Pro and newer):
Press and hold the Action button on the side until you see the "ringer" indication, which means Silent mode is off. You can also go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics and toggle Silent mode off there. Another option is to open Control Center by swiping down from the top-right corner and tap the bell icon to disable Silent mode
- iPhones with a Ring/Silent switch (older models like iPhone 14 and earlier):
Flip the Ring/Silent switch on the left side of the phone towards the screen (upwards) to turn off Silent mode. When Silent mode is on, you will see an orange indicator on the switch. Flipping it up removes the orange and turns Silent mode off
- If the physical switch or button is not working:
Enable AssistiveTouch by going to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch and turn it on. Tap the AssistiveTouch menu, then go to Device > Unmute to turn off Silent mode
Additionally, Silent mode only silences calls and alerts; alarms and some app sounds still play even when Silent mode is on
. In summary, to turn off Silent mode, either press/hold the Action button or flip the Ring/Silent switch towards the screen, or use the software toggles in Settings, Control Center, or AssistiveTouch if needed.
