how to wrap presents

Wrapping presents is mostly about measuring well and keeping your folds tight. Here is a simple method that works for most box-shaped gifts.

What you need

  • Wrapping paper
  • Clear tape (or double-sided tape)
  • Scissors
  • Optional: ribbon, bow, gift tag

Step 1: Measure and cut paper

Place the box on the back side of the wrapping paper.
Pull the paper up and around the box so it can go all the way around with about 2–3 cm (about 1 inch) of overlap, then cut.

Step 2: Wrap around the middle

Put the box upside down in the center of the cut paper.
Pull one long side of the paper snugly over the box and tape it to the box, then pull the other long side over so it overlaps slightly and tape that seam.

Step 3: Fold one end

Turn the box so one open end faces you.
Push the left and right sides of the paper inward so they form two triangles, then fold the top triangle down and crease, fold the bottom triangle up, crease, and tape.

Step 4: Repeat on the other end

Flip the box to the other open side.
Repeat the same folds: push in the sides, fold down the top triangle, then fold up the bottom triangle and tape securely.

Step 5: Add finishing touches

Run your fingers along all edges to sharpen the creases.
Tie ribbon around the box and add a bow or gift tag on top for decoration. If your gift is a weird shape, put it in a box or a gift bag first to make wrapping easier.
