Ed Gein was caught in November 1957 after local police investigated the disappearance of Bernice Worden, a hardware store owner. Authorities traced the investigation to Gein after finding a receipt for antifreeze with his name on it and blood at the hardware store. When they searched Gein's farmhouse, they discovered Worden's decapitated body hanging in a shed and found gruesome items made from human skin, including masks, lampshades, and furniture. Additionally, human remains and organs exhumed from graves were found at his home. Following about 30 hours of silence, Gein confessed to the murders of Bernice Worden and Mary Hogan and admitted to grave robbing to collect human body parts.
