Hurricane Erin is a powerful and long-lived Cape Verde hurricane that occurred in August 2025. It was the fifth named storm and the first major hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season. Developed from a tropical wave near Cape Verde on August 11, it intensified rapidly, reaching Category 5 status with peak winds of 160 mph (260 km/h) and a minimum pressure of 915 mb by August 16. It underwent an eyewall replacement cycle and fluctuated in intensity while paralleling the East Coast of the United States, generating large wind fields and dangerous surf and rip currents. Erin caused significant flooding and fatalities in Cape Verde before reaching the Atlantic and eventually transitioned into an extratropical cyclone near Nova Scotia by August 22. The remnants meandered near Iceland and dissipated west of the United Kingdom on August 28. Damage estimates have exceeded $1 million with life-threatening coastal conditions along the US east coast, especially near North Carolina and New Jersey.

There was also a Hurricane Erin in 1995 that struck Florida and caused significant impacts but the 2025 Erin is the most recent and notable one. If more details about the hurricane's track, effects, or recovery efforts are needed, please specify.
