If you block someone on WhatsApp, they will not receive any notification that they have been blocked. WhatsApp does not inform users when they are blocked to protect privacy
. However, the blocked person may notice indirect signs that suggest they have been blocked:
- They will no longer see your "last seen" timestamp, online status, profile photo updates, or status updates
- Messages they send to you will show only one gray checkmark (message sent) but never a second checkmark (message delivered)
- They won't be able to call you via WhatsApp, and their calls will not go through
- If you are both in a group chat, they will still see your messages there, but outside of groups, no communication will be received
- Their attempts to add you to a group may fail with an error if you have blocked them
Blocking someone stops all direct messages, calls, and status updates from that contact from reaching you, but it does not remove them from your contacts list or delete the existing chat unless you choose to delete it
. In summary, the blocked person won't get a direct notification but may infer they are blocked from the absence of your updates and undelivered messages
