Microsoft Word was first released in the year 1983 under the original name "Multi-Tool Word." It was launched on October 25, 1983, designed for Xenix systems before later being developed for other platforms. The name "Multi-Tool Word" was soon simplified to "Microsoft Word" as it evolved into the widely used word processing software it is today.
