Lume is not an antiperspirant, but a deodorant that is clinically proven to control odor for 72 hours. It is aluminum-free, baking soda-free, phthalates-free, sulfates-free, parabens-free, and talc-free. Lume is vegan and cruelty-free. It contains mandelic acid, an AHA found in skincare products, which has an antibacterial effect and stops bacteria from reacting with bodily fluids, such as sweat, and causing odor. Lume also contains other natural ingredients such as aloe barbadensis leaf juice, tapioca starch, and maranta arundinacea root powder (also known as arrowroot powder) to control odor and sweat. Lume does contain some synthetic ingredients, but those have been shown to be skin-safe. Lume should be gentle even for sensitive skin. However, Lume does contain the preservative ethylhexylglycerin, which can potentially be a toxic ingredient if it hasn’t been tested for contaminants such as toluene, ethylene oxide, and 1,4 dioxane. Ethylhexylglycerin has also been known to be a skin irritant. Lumes inventor, Shannon Klingman, created Lume specifically for privates after noticing that many women were receiving inaccurate BV diagnoses during her residency as an OB/GYN. Lume comes in different forms such as cream deodorant, solid deodorant stick, bar soap, wipes, and laundry products.
