John Calvin was asked to lead a community in the city of Geneva. He arrived in Geneva in 1536 at the invitation of William Farel to help reform the church and society there. Calvin played a central role in shaping Geneva into a major center of the Protestant Reformation, implementing church and civic reforms that influenced the city's religious, social, and political life until his death in 1564. His leadership included establishing church governance structures, enforcing moral discipline, and guiding the city council to align laws with Christian principles.
