A mountain lion, also known as a cougar, puma, or panther, is a large, powerful feline native to the Americas. It has a tawny-beige fur coat with a pale underbelly and black accents on its ears, snout, and tail tip. Mountain lions are highly adaptable and can live in environments ranging from deserts to snowy mountains. Adult males typically weigh between 115 and 220 pounds, while females weigh less, around 64 to 141 pounds. They are solitary, territorial animals and are skilled ambush predators, primarily hunting deer but also smaller mammals and occasionally livestock. Their geographic range is vast, extending from the Canadian Yukon all the way to the southern parts of South America, making it the terrestrial mammal with the widest range in the Western Hemisphere.
