Orca Wiesblatt, a 25-year-old hockey forward who was set to play for the Allen Americans of the ECHL this season, tragically died in a car accident in British Columbia over the weekend of September 13-14, 2025. He was previously known for his time in the WHL with the Calgary Hitmen and had a strong professional career in the SPHL and FPHL. The Allen Americans, his former team the Athens Rock Lobsters, and the Calgary Hitmen have all expressed heartbreak and issued statements mourning his loss. The Americans plan to pay tribute to him on their opening night on October 24. Orca was also the brother of NHL player Ozzy Wiesblatt, and came from a well-known hockey family in Calgary.
