Sir James Paul McCartney, born June 18, 1942, is an English musician famed globally as a member of The Beatles, where he played bass and piano and co- wrote many iconic songs with John Lennon. He is acclaimed for his melodic bass playing, wide vocal range, and exploration of diverse musical genres ranging from pop to classical and electronica. After The Beatles disbanded, he had a successful solo career and formed the band Wings with his wife Linda. McCartney has written or co-written 32 Billboard Hot 100 number-one songs and has sold around 100 million records, earning numerous awards including multiple Grammys, an Academy Award, and a knighthood. He continues to tour and produce music, also advocating for animal rights and other causes.
