President Abraham Lincoln was shot on the evening of April 14, 1865. He was attending a special performance of the comedy play "Our American Cousin" at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C. The assassin, John Wilkes Booth, entered Lincoln’s box during the play, timed the shot to coincide with a loud laugh in the play, and shot Lincoln in the back of the head. Lincoln was carried across the street to a boarding house where he died early the next morning on April 15, 1865, at 7:22 a.m.
