To change a Pokémon's Tera Type in Pokémon Violet (and Scarlet), follow these steps:
- Defeat the Normal-type Gym Leader Larry at the Treasure Eatery in Medali. This unlocks the ability to change Tera Types by talking to the chef there
- Collect 50 Tera Shards of the specific type you want your Pokémon's Tera Type to become. Tera Shards are obtained mainly by completing Tera Raid battles of the desired type, with higher-level raids dropping more shards. You can also find shards scattered around Paldea, but raids are the most efficient source
- Go to the Treasure Eatery in Medali and talk to the chef at the back. He will offer to change your Pokémon's Tera Type in exchange for 50 Tera Shards of the chosen type
- Select the Tera Type and the Pokémon whose Tera Type you want to change. The chef will perform the change immediately after you pay the 50 shards
Additional tips:
- There are events and raid rotations that can make farming specific Tera Shards easier.
- Using Raid Power sandwiches can increase shard drop rates from raids
- You can only change Tera Types after certain story progress (beating Larry) and completing some tasks in the game
This system allows you to customize your Pokémon's Tera Type for strategic battles or personal preference.
