Recently, two candy makers have recalled their products sold nationwide due to a choking hazard caused by the rolling balls that can detach into a childs mouth. The two candy varieties are the Slime Licker and Cocco Candy Rolling Candy. The Cocco Candy Rolling Candy consists of 2 fluid ounces in various flavors including Sour Strawberry, Sour Tutti Frutti, and Sour Cola, and the Slime Licker Sour Rolling Liquid Candy is sold in 2- and 3-ounce plastic bottle containers and holds a sour liquid candy dispensed through a rolling ball. The recall affects about 145,800 Cocco Candy Rolling Candy and 70 million Slime Licker Sour Rolling Liquid Candy sold in stores nationwide and online from May 2022 through March 2023 and from June 2015 through July 2023, respectively. The Cocco Candy of Turkey and Passaic, New Jersey-based KGR Distribution are recalling the Cocco Candy Rolling Candy, while Carmel, Indiana-based Candy Dynamics is recalling the Slime Licker Sour Rolling Liquid Candy.

The rolling ball of the recalled candies can dislodge from the product into a childs mouth, posing a choking hazard or death. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has received one report of a 7-year-old girl who choked and died after the candys rolling ball dislodged and became trapped in her throat in New York in April 2023.
