Rudyard Kipling is associated with two famous houses:

  1. Naulakha: This house is located in Dummerston, Vermont, USA. Built in 1893 in the Shingle Style with South Asian Indian bungalow influences, Kipling lived here until 1896. He wrote some of his major works in this house including "The Jungle Book" and "Captains Courageous." The house is now a National Historic Landmark owned by the Landmark Trust and is available for rent.
  2. Bateman's: This is a 17th-century Jacobean house located in Burwash, East Sussex, England. Kipling bought it in 1902 and lived there until his death in 1936. Many of his later famous works were written here. The house is preserved by the National Trust and features Kipling's study, collections, and gardens. It reflects a serene English countryside setting.

Naulakha reflects Kipling's earlier life in America with Eastern architectural inspiration, while Bateman's served as his English family home for many years and is a museum of his life and work.
